Back in 1999 I uploaded songs to the old mp3.com, and remember "Taco Taco Taco" fondly. Tonight (July 21 2010) I found the "Taco Taco Taco" video on YouTube and was very delighted. Doctor Orange's song was probably the most meaningful song of the 20th century.

I hear you there; that really does seem like what has happened. Plus, the "fetish" section, for one, is now basically like reading an excerpt from a SkyMall catalog. it's just new product, that I'm convinced Conde Nast gets a cut from running a blurb about said product.

I have been liking io9 more and more, however. I am a bit put off by BoingBoing for similar reasons I am put off by Wired, but I understand that puts me in a small camp.

Having not read Wired with any regularity since the 90s, I picked up a few issues recently and was amazed how... boring it's become. I think it's the standard case of a subculture getting absorbed into larger culture and being defanged. You don't need to read Wired to get your technology news these days -- it's in Time magazine.
